~ EXHIBIT: East Hampton Style: Dominy & Hedges, Master 19th-Century Craftsmen ~
What is East Hampton Style? The East Hampton Historical Society is traveling back in time, this summer, to discover local style just after the 18th century turned into the 19th century.
Gathering together a large collection of decorative arts, the Clinton Academy exhibit features items used and made on the East End from about 1785 through 1835. Highlighting the brilliant careers of the Dominy family in clockmaking as well as windmill and furniture design, there are over two dozen examples of the creation of this extraordinary family. Two brothers, the Hedges, also produced beautiful coin silver for East Hampton families.
The exhibition includes ceramics, embroideries and other objects that decorated the shingle-sided homes of the citizens of East Hampton's past.
